About the position

We-Collab is seeking an Impact Manager for our portfolio supporting systems change leaders focused on advancing outcomes for boys and young men of color. Our new Impact Manager will support us in driving impact for the My Brother’s Keeper Model Community Initiative.

The Impact Manager will have experience understanding a systems change journey, confidence in managing relationships, proficiency in project management, and an ability to translate ideas into content and deliverables. The ideal candidate will have experience working at a consulting firm.

The preferred location for this role is Houston, TX (relocation support is available), however, a remote structure can be accommodated if the candidate meets the needs of the initiative.  The role will require 30% travel to various US cities to provide in-person consultation. The Impact Manager will work closely with the Impact Director, We-Collab leadership, MBK Alliance leadership, Model Community leads and their stakeholders to fulfill project goals.

The salary for our Impact Manager role at We-Collab ranges from $75,000 - $90,000 based on experience. Additionally, a comprehensive benefits package will be provided including medical, dental, and paid time off.

Background

In 2014, President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper to address the persistent opportunity gaps boys and young men of color face and to ensure all young people can reach their full potential. Today, the MBK Alliance works to unleash the power of communities working together to solve problems for boys and young men of color, at a level to improve real-life outcomes. They believe communities are the unit of change to realize improved life outcomes for our boys. 

In 2023, the MBK Alliance will identify 2 - 3 communities that have proven impact in one of the 6 MBK Milestones (See Page 16 for the 6 MBK Milestones). The goal is to invest resources, time, and support in these 3 communities to expand their impact across all 6 MBK Milestones. The result of this initiative is to create a deep impact in these 3 communities while building a model for the rest of the country. 

We-Collab has been selected by the MBK Alliance to lead all technical assistance efforts to support the 3 communities in achieving impact across all 6 MBK Milestones. Our work will include onboarding the communities, providing training, creating 5-year strategic plans, and supporting the implementation of each plan. Our key role is to ensure relationships across stakeholders are built and that the community is working collaboratively towards shared goals.

Responsibilities for this role

Model Communities Initiative 

The Impact Manager will project manage the MBK Model Community technical assistance and will support the Impact Director in ensuring each of the Model Communities meets their defined benchmarks and milestones. The Impact Manager is a critical driver of implementation and must be agile, entrepreneurial, and confident in engaging with people at all levels. The Impact Manager will manage multiple work streams, timelines, and progress tracking across the communities. This position is ideal for someone who has keen attention to detail. Key responsibilities will include:

Project Management

  • Manage timelines and project plans for each of the identified Model Communities' technical assistance
  • Organize notes, documents, and files
  • Identify action items, owners, and due dates. Follow up to ensure implementation. 
  • Create agendas, organize meetings/ events, and ensure relevant attendees are participating
  • Provide the client with status updates

Technical Assistance & Content Development

  • Develop client-ready worksheets, templates, and tools to support the Model Communities. This may include developing content and working with an editor and designer to create client-ready tools.
  • Develop slide decks, agendas, and talking points for trainings and presentations 
  • Ensure Model Community leads are connected to resources, people, and tools necessary to advance their work  
  • Support the Impact Director in defining goals and priorities for the project, change process, or arc of learning

What we're looking for

In addition to being passionate about equity work, we are looking for a candidate with experience working in government, systems change, and/ or community engagement with a keen understanding of project management as a tool to drive actions and results. 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience as a consultant with a firm. Other past experience or qualities that are necessary to be successful in this role include:

Racial Equity Experience

  • You authentically are interested in how identity and race impact organizations, governments, and communities, and are able to speak from your lived experience
  • You understand what is required to advance policies and programs that positively impact communities of color
  • You have a perspective on equity and the advancement of communities that have been systematically marginalized

Project Management Experience

  • You have experience organizing meetings, trainings, and/ or conferences
  • You have experience creating client-ready resources and tools
  • You have experience managing multiple work streams, timelines, and tracking progress
  • You are technologically savvy and comfortable with virtual meeting design and facilitation

Skills Requirements

  • Communication skills: Verbally communicate with different audiences in order to build relationships, educate, and create consensus. Audiences may include systems leaders, community members, and government officials.
  • Technical skills: Expert in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Suite. Canva and other design programs are a plus. 
  • Problem-solving skills: The ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems effectively
  • Writing skills: Effective written communication with attention to detail, including emails, agendas, training presentations, memos, and reports
