Project Overview

About Prevention Institute
Prevention Institute (PI) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to embedding prevention and health equity into policies and actions at all levels. With offices across the U.S., PI partners with communities, governments, foundations, and public health agencies to tackle critical health and safety issues, including violence prevention, healthy eating, active living, and mental health and wellbeing, always with a focus on addressing disparities and ensuring equitable outcomes for all communities.

Project Approach

How We Helped Them
We-Collab worked closely with PI to design and execute a collaborative, inclusive process that provided CBOs with the resources, support, and frameworks they needed to succeed.

  • Branding & Communication: We co-created the SYNC brand with CBOs to ensure their ownership and investment in the project, fostering trust and community.
  • Curriculum Development: Together with core partners, we built a curriculum that integrated multi-sectoral violence prevention strategies, public health approaches, and data-driven decision-making, giving CBOs actionable knowledge they could apply immediately.
  • Hybrid Facilitation: We combined virtual workshops, asynchronous learning, and a two-day in-person convening to engage participants fully while maintaining accessibility.
  • Convening Logistics & Programming: The in-person convening featured keynotes, breakout sessions, and healing circles designed to build deep connections and resonate with the cultural backgrounds of the CBOs and the communities they serve.

Project Results

The Impact
We-Collab’s collaborative approach resulted in measurable outcomes:

  • Culturally Responsive Programming: The focus on cultural relevance resonated with participants, building stronger engagement. A healing exercise centered on cultural connection became a standout moment.
  • Capacity Building: 88% of participants left with actionable strategies for organizational sustainability, including long-term funding frameworks and integration of public health data.
  • Relationship Building: 100% of participants reported forming meaningful relationships with peers and establishing a supportive network for ongoing collaboration.
  • Scalable Model Development: The SYNC Safety project created a scalable model that can be adapted to other communities. The relationships, resources, and frameworks established provide a strong foundation that can continue without large financial investments. Core partners will remain engaged, offering mentorship and technical guidance to ensure the sustainability of the skills and connections developed during SYNC Safety.

Looking ahead, sustaining the progress made will require ongoing support and strategic planning. Prevention Institute, We-Collab, and Core Partners are committed to ensuring that CBOs have the tools and resources needed to thrive. The continued focus on collaboration, capacity building, and long-term sustainability will be essential to furthering violence prevention efforts and creating safer, healthier communities. This approach can be replicated in diverse contexts to create lasting impact.

Let's shift the narrative.
