Project Approach

How We Helped Them
We-Collab’s role was pivotal in developing and executing the in-person convening, leveraging the relationships and knowledge built during the learning labs. Our approach focused on creating a dynamic, culturally responsive, and community-driven event.

  • Convening Programming: We expanded on the key topics covered in the learning labs, organizing breakout sessions, keynote speeches, and coaching circles. Sessions were designed to give participants practical tools they could immediately apply within their organizations.
  • Logistics & Design: We-Collab designed everything for the convening, from the SYNC logo, posters, swag items, and signage to the event program and breakout room set-ups. Every detail was crafted to create an engaging and welcoming environment that reflected the convening's values and themes.
  • Healing & Self-Care: Recognizing the emotional toll of violence prevention work, we incorporated healing circles and wellness rooms to provide attendees with opportunities for reflection, connection, and personal rejuvenation.
  • Cultural Relevance: We ensured that the food, venue, and programming reflected the various cultures and traditions, specifically honoring the rich diversity of local communities in Houston. This included offering dishes representative of key population groups, such as African American and Hispanic cuisines, and centering the event in a community-driven location deeply connected to Houston’s cultural heritage.

  • Actionable Insights: 88% of participants reported walking away with strategies they could immediately implement in their organizations, signaling the practical value of the content and discussions.
  • Cultural Significance: Attendees appreciated the culturally rooted approach, including the healing circles and community-centered venue. This aspect humanized the work, fostering a deeper sense of connection and belonging among participants.
  • Re-energized Commitment: Many attendees shared that the convening was unlike others, largely due to its focus on healing and human connection. They left feeling reinvigorated and motivated to apply what they had learned, with 100% of participants recommending the experience to their colleagues.

Participants praised the event for its seamless organization, impactful content, and focus on healing and self-care. Although there were minor logistical challenges, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive. It fostered a sense of community that extended beyond the event.
