Who You Are

The new Director at We-Collab will primarily be responsible for leading the execution of a key client initiative focused on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), specifically supporting the implementation, stakeholder engagement, and cohort management.

The Director's role will specifically involve:

  • Oversight and Execution: Managing the project, including contributing organizations in its entirety.
  • Support: Providing technical assistance, strategic coordination, and collaboration.
  • Advisory Role: Offering guidance to HBCUs to ensure the project creates a long-term, meaningful impact.

The Director will have experience understanding a systems change journey, proficiency in strategy development, confidence in stakeholder engagement, direct prior consulting experience, and an understanding of key strategies that advance the outcomes. In order to be successful in this role, the Director must be a solutions-oriented thinker and have experience operating in a fast-paced environment. This may include, but is not limited to, additional traits such as innovation, consistency, and adaptability, with the ability to navigate a variety of motivations and competing interests, all while effectively advancing progress. 

In addition, the Director will be skilled in business development, with the ability to attend conferences, meetings, and prospective client meetings as a representative of We-Collab. 

Your Primary Responsibilities

As a Director, your primary objective will be to leverage your experience and expertise to provide clients and their organizations with valuable insights, solutions, and guidance. You will play a crucial role in leading and delivering on projects that drive positive change and solve complex problems, and you will contribute to the overall success of We-Collab. The primary responsibilities include:

HBCUs Endowment Initiative (70%)

Project Leadership

  • Define goals and priorities for the project, change process, and arc of learning
  • Ensure overall accountability for the success of projects, programs, and services
  • Lead the project team of We-Collab team members, client partners, executive-level stakeholders, and client staff for successful implementation
  • Attend client meetings and report out on project updates
  • Manage timelines, project plans, and budgets
  • Develop content for client reports and grant management
  • Develop presentations and memos
  • Organizing information into easily readable documents/briefs

Financial Planning

  • Collaborate with the financial aid offices and leadership teams of each HBCU to design a comprehensive scholarship strategy annually
  • Present annual proposed budgets and potential impact to the client team for approval

Endowment Implementation

  • Serve as a liaison and point of contact for the HBCUs' teams as they work to implement the scholarship and infrastructure plan
  • Support the HBCUs' teams in their reporting efforts to the client
  • Support in the selection and management of the evaluation team
  • Ensure the evaluation frame, metrics, and reporting align with the needs of the client
  • Serve as the primary liaison between participating schools and the client:
    • Coordinate school priorities 
    • Elevate impact and successes 
    • Identify fundraising and communications opportunities 
    • Proactively communicating challenges
  • Lead stakeholder communications and reporting

Cohort Facilitation and Implementation

  • Design and implement a comprehensive cohort program to enhance the impact of the endowment initiative
  • Implement a communications plan
  • Design agendas and facilitate offerings/meetings
  • Develop content and implement deliverables (e.g., trainings, tools, reports, assessments)
  • Work with HBCUs to manage goals, report data, and track progress towards goals

Other Projects (15%)

The Director will support other We-Collab projects and client products as needed. Support for projects includes:

  • Manage project activities, timeline, reporting, and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Ensure overall accountability for the success of projects, programs, and services
  • Lead project team of consultant partners and client staff for successful implementation
  • Manage client relationships
  • Facilitate trainings, learning sessions, and client meetings
  • Design agendas and facilitation guides
  • Create and implement deliverables (e.g., trainings, tools, reports, assessments, etc.)
  • Provide coaching and ongoing support to clients around their learning and change processes, both in-person and virtually
  • Implement qualitative data analysis and reporting (conducting interviews, surveys, etc.)

Business Development (15%)

  • Attend conferences, meetings, and events as a representative of We-Collab with a focus on building relationships, identifying opportunities, and advancing leads to We-Collab principal
  • Identify opportunities for partnership, new clients, and innovative products
  • Support writing proposals and responses to RFPs

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate brings both depth and range, is experienced in managing high-stakes projects, advising executive leaders, and growing teams with clarity and care. This person is equally comfortable navigating the big picture and digging into the details, and brings a strong equity lens to everything they do. This includes:

  • Proven leadership experience in a consulting environment
  • Strong track record in managing and overseeing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience in business development, proposal writing, and cultivating relationships
  • Experience with data gathering and analysis
  • Competent in utilizing Excel for data management and reporting
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and human-centered work
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred

What We Offer

Other Details

This is an in-office role based at our We-Collab office in Houston, Texas, and will report to our Managing Director. The Director will work closely with We-Collab team members and may also work with its partners, funders, consultants, and clients across the country.
